
Casino Crime Round Up: Shooting Close to California Casino Leads to Several Arrests
Three arrests were made on Thursday following gunfire directed at two pedestrians near a California tribal casino.
The two victims were strolling close to the Bear River Casino Resort in Loleta when the gunfire occurred. The men steered clear of injuries from the gunfire that occurred early in the morning.
They notified the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office at 3:40 a.m. The two victims stated that the assailants were in a silver, two-door car and a black pickup.
Authorities reported that two of the suspects were located shortly after at a home on Carroll Road that contained multiple firearms.
One of the individuals suspected was recognized as Fernando Martinez, 26, from Visalia, Calif. He was accused of breaching parole and opposing arrest.
The second individual was Robert Ellis, aged 33, also from Loleta. He faced charges for being a felon in possession of a weapon and for having an unregistered firearm.
Furthermore, later on Thursday, Madison Carroll, 23, from Loleta, was charged with displaying a firearm and firing a weapon.
As of Friday, the deputies were still looking into the shooting. The reason the men shot at the pedestrians remains unclear.
The casino can be found approximately 275 miles north of Sacramento. It is managed by the Bear River Band of Rohnerville Rancheria.
Casino Evacuated Due to Gas Leak
Guests and others at California's Eagle Mountain Casino had to leave the building due to a gas leak on Thursday evening.
Nobody was injured in the incident.
Everyone was permitted to re-enter the tribal gaming venue by approximately 10 p.m. Jueves.
The cause of the gas leak remains unknown. Firefighters from the local area arrived at the Portersville, Calif. casino and offered help. The regional gas company additionally dispatched teams to the location.
The casino is situated approximately 160 miles north of Los Angeles. It is managed by the Tule River Tribe in California.
Eagle Mountain Casino moved to Portersville from its previous, smaller site in May 2023.
Theft at a Casino in Louisiana
A man whose identity is unknown took vouchers from a visitor at a gaming establishment in Lake Charles, La., on July 30.
A lady at the casino stated her vouchers were placed on a gaming machine. The suspect crept up from behind and took the vouchers.
Their worth was estimated at several hundred dollars.
Lieutenant Brenda Treadway of the Lake Charles Police Department reported that the theft occurred around 12:49 a.m. on July 30. She did not mention the casino's name.
The casino surveillance cameras captured photographs of the suspect. The individual is sought for inquiry regarding a separate event at the same Louisiana casino.
